A new retail store development for Aldi Stores Limited as part of their continuing UK growth plan.
The new building is a single storey store, of steel frame and beam structure. The chosen material combination reflects the Planners aspirations for this site, while referencing the wider corporate portfolio. The chosen position for the store affords maximum street presence, facing the intersection of a number of primary traffic routes.
The development site was brownfield, and was formerly occupied by a multi-storey council residential block with undulating contours. The site also housed an electrical sub-station that serves the Network Rail Infrastructure, introducing further stakeholders to the project.
The site was subject to vibro improvement, providing a suitable substrate on which to build.
High-voltage power cables from the sub-station were relocated, in close conversation with Network Rail, ensuring the store could be positioned in the most prominent and economically beneficial location on site.
