A new retail store development, to the latest store format, for Aldi Stores Limited as part of their continuing UK growth plan.
The new building is a single storey store, of steel frame and beam structure. The site is shared with a number of other smaller independent retail units in an area of Willenhall known as Coppice Farm.
The levels across the site were significantly steeper than a typical Aldi development, and was further complicated by needing to retain level access to the existing established smaller retail units and utilise the shared service access yard. An unusual request we received from the Local Authority was for the shopfront to be protected from Vehicular impact along Essington Road.
We developed a levels and associated ground retention strategy that enabled the standard Aldi store model to be developed whilst maintaining the level access of the neighbouring retail units. Good communication and the phasing of works during the construction ensured there was minimal impact on the existing retail units.
