A large distribution centre forming part of a national retailer’s logistic network completed in 2018. The scheme provides ambient and temperature-controlled storage facilities, alongside a regional office that supports the stores network in this area.
It is the largest building on the island and was designed to consider the take-off trajectory of migrating birds on the adjacent SSSI wetland habitat.
The centre is immediately visible from the crest of the Sheppey crossing, this necessitated working with the local authority design engineers to design a solution that was considerate of the setting.
The agreed solution was a horizontal green banding that blends into the surrounding landscape, rather than the skyline, with banding being a growing trend in distribution to obscure the perceived mass.
