A new two storey concept store for Aldi Stores Limited on a constrained urban site in Solihull with the retail area arranged over the site car parking. The store benefitted from being adjacent the Touchwood shopping centre with a direct pedestrian access formed.
The arrangement of store over car parking required careful consideration of the clients operational needs, customer access requirements and ensuring suitable means of escape. The constrained site also required good co-ordination of design and management of construction sequencing as not to affect neighbouring properties.
We introduced two access points at different levels both sharing a customer travellator up to the retail space, providing direct access from ground floor level and first floor level. Servicing of the building was provided via a ground service yard with dedicated service lift directly to the first floor store room.
