Two bespoke office building developments; one a purpose built regional office for the client, and the second being offered for speculative let. Both buildings responded to the context of the surrounding commercial development, resulting in a contemporary architectural language using brickwork and lead cladding.
The site is a narrow strip of land that was formally the landscaping area of the adjacent Motorola building, it is now part of a commercial redevelopment zone and is highly visible from the A419 bypass. This position and constrained site required an innovative but considered design that would respond well to the constraints and context. The former usage of the site also means there were a number of buried services that required maintenance wayleaves or re-routing, making an already constrained site that little tighter!
Thorough and iterative design studies were undertaken from Concept Design stage to ensure the building responded firstly to the clients functional requirements, but also to the prominent position it occupies next to a well used major highway. The overall design, considered detailing and material palette generate a contemporary take on a traditional form – recognised when the building won a Regional LABC award.
